1. Who is responsible
Legal Contact Intelligence is a trading name of B Shaw LTD, registered in England and Wales under company number 12912346. Questions, corrections and objections may be sent to brett@chroniclelaw.co.uk or raised by telephone on +44 7480 990 290.
2. What information may be held
We may hold professional information such as name, employer or chambers, business email address or telephone number, job title, seniority, department or practice area, office location, organisation characteristics, source and verification dates. We do not intend to collect special-category information for these services.
3. Where information comes from
Sources may include law-firm and chambers websites, regulatory and professional directories, official public records, organisation publications, direct corrections and information supplied by clients for cleansing or verification.
4. Why information is used
Information may be used to maintain a structured view of the UK legal market, verify and enrich client databases, create market analysis, identify relevant professional audiences and license appropriate business-contact datasets to organisations serving the legal profession.
5. Lawful basis and balancing
Where personal data is involved, the lawful basis is generally legitimate interests, subject to a documented assessment of purpose, necessity, reasonable expectations and potential impact. Public availability does not remove our responsibilities. Some activities may require a different basis or may not proceed if the balancing test is not met.
6. Licensing and recipients
Relevant fields may be licensed to vetted business clients whose products, services, research or professional activity relate to the UK legal sector. Clients must use information only for agreed purposes, apply applicable UK GDPR and PECR requirements, provide appropriate transparency, honour objections and suppression lists, and avoid onward sale unless specifically authorised and legally justified.
7. Marketing is the client’s responsibility too
A dataset does not itself authorise every form of marketing. Clients must determine whether a recipient is a corporate or individual subscriber, select an appropriate lawful basis, comply with electronic-mail and telephone rules, screen preference and suppression lists, identify themselves and provide working opt-out routes.
8. Your right to object
If you object, relevant processing for direct marketing will stop. Limited information may be retained on a suppression list so that you are not added again.
9. Accuracy, retention and security
Records are reviewed using source and change signals, and clients may report corrections. Data is retained according to documented review and deletion periods. Licensed files are delivered using restricted accounts and protected storage.
10. Corrections, objections and rights
To request a correction, object to processing or exercise an applicable data-protection right, email brett@chroniclelaw.co.uk. You may also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
